Karen’s Botanicals Ingredient Information
Karen is continuously examining the ingredients with
which her products are formulated. Companies striving to
create effective natural skin and body care products
with truly clean ingredients must do continuous research
to insure the purity and quality of raw materials. Based on recent
research, we have made several changes that we are
excited about.
We
found a new source for certified organic Rosehip Seed
Oil. The quality of this oil is remarkable. It is used
in our Enriching Rosehip Night Cream because it is so
valuable for treating mature or damaged skin. You will
notice a deeper golden color in this cream now, and it
will be even more effective for skincare. We are now
using only Mixed Tocopherols in the form of Tocobiol, a
non-GMO certified form of Vitamin E Oil.
Grapefruit Seed Extract has long been eliminated from
all of our products. This
is due to ongoing controversy about the material.
Studies show that many of the available GSE products are
not pure. As we cannot be absolutely certain, we have discontinued the use of GSE.
In our creams, oil extracts of
Goldenseal and Cinnamon bark have been replaced with
gentler essential oils. Paba ester is no longer used in
Lovely lavender Cream. All of our beeswax is now
certified organic, as is any lecithin we use.
Benzoin Gum is used in Melissa Rose and Fennel Sage
Facial Toners for its soothing and healing properties.
Careful research indicates that most commercially
available Benzoin gums may be extracted with synthetic
solvents. We are now formulating our own Benzoin extract
with certified organic grain alcohol. We now use only
specially denatured, certified organic grain alcohol for making
extracts.
Karen has endorsed the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, The Truth
in Labeling Pledge, and the Coming Clean Campaign.

A
note about product labels: While it is easy to update
website information, labels and printed material take
more time. Some orders will arrive with updated
ingredient information printed on a separate label or
enclosure.
Thanks for your
interest,
Karen
